About Publix
The Publix brand has been around since 1930, and it has certainly grown since then. From the first original store, it has become the largest employee-owned grocery chain in the whole US. It is one of the few grocery chains in the US with more than 1,000 locations, although most of these locations are in Florida.
But Publix isn’t just a grocery retail store. Publix opened its first in-store pharmacy in 1986, and by 1995 about a third of all Publix stores had an attached pharmacy. Today, about 9 out of 10 Publix stores also have a pharmacy.
Find a Publix store, and you can get your flu shots. With most insurance plans (including Medicare), you may even get your flu shots for free.
Publix also was among the first providers of the Covid-19 vaccine, with vaccines available as early as January 2021. Publix has already distributed 300,000 vaccines in Florida and other states like Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia.
There’s plenty of good things to say about the quality of service you’ll get from a visit to a Publix pharmacy. Several surveys have already shown that Publix Pharmacies rank first for consumer satisfaction, among all supermarket pharmacies.
Aside from vaccines for the flu and for Covid-19, Publix also offers shots for the following:
- Pneumonia
- Shingles
- TDAP (tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough)
- Tetanus
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Meningitis
- HPV
- Measles, mumps, rubella (a single vaccine for all 3)
- Varicella
Publix offers very reasonable prices for vaccines such as flu shots, even if you don’t have insurance. Publix seems to run their pharmacy more as a form of public service.
In fact, over the years, Publix pharmacies has offered free medications, and given 2-week supplies for certain types of antibiotics. Other free prescriptions have included medicines for diabetes, high blood pressure, allergies, and asthma.
