About Target Optical

Target Optical sells various eye care products, including prescription eyeglasses and fashionable sunglasses from famous brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley. They’re also a good place to get your annual eye exam, as you can then get your need eyeglasses and contact lenses afterwards.

However, the optometrists who work at or near a Target Optical location are not necessarily employed by Target. Most of the time, they’re independent doctors of optometry who lease the space at or near the Target Optical location.

Still, some doctors are actually Target employees as well. Even if they’re not employees, they generally work in partnership with Target Optical.

The most notable exception is in California, where you can’t get an eye exam or schedule an appointment with the Target optometrist. With all the other states, you’re good to go.

Prices for the eye exam will vary depending on the location. In general, additional tests such as the additional field vision test (a test for peripheral vision to check for glaucoma) and the contact lens fitting will all cost extra. But they don’t really cost too much even when you tally the total cost of the tests.

In general, the Target optometrist will give you a comprehensive eye exam that’s the same as what you’d get elsewhere. It only takes a few minutes to go online and schedule your eye exam appointment with Target. Even walk-ins can get an exam.

Once you’re done with the exam, you then have lots of cool contact lenses and eyeglasses to pick from among the Target products. And you won’t need a membership to buy these eyeglasses and contact lenses, which makes your visit to Target Optical different from a visit to Costco or Sam’s Club.

It’s best if you get your eye exam at least once a year. Children should get their eye exam early and regularly, so that their vision can be monitored and problems can be corrected. As you get older, you also nee more frequent eye exams to deal with age-related eye issues.

Target Optical works with various vision insurance from many insurance providers. But even if you don’t have vision insurance, the costs of the eye exams are among the most affordable at Target Optical.
